Recognizing The Symptoms Of Diabetes Can Lead To A Healthier Lifestyle

By Eddie Smyths for exercise-and-health.com

When one is aware of the symptoms of diabetes, they are in a position to be able to find treatment and take steps in the prevention of damage from the disease. While a program of lifetime fitness can keep you healthy and prevent a number of health risks, diabetes is not usually affected by exercise. Your doctor is the only one who can diagnose and help you manage diabetes.

There are a number of common symptoms that can alert one to suspect they might have diabetes. Symptoms include frequent urination, increased thirst and/or hunger, unusual weight loss, overwhelming fatigue and irritability. Unfortunately, the most common type of diabetes, which is type 2 diabetes, doesn’t usually have symptoms present and can go for years before diagnosis and treatment.

In type 2 diabetes, the blood sugar levels rise so slowly that they have no symptoms or idea they might have diabetes. The most common physical traits of people who have type 2 diabetes include being overweight and a lack of regular exercise. The disease is quite common in people who are 40 years old or older, but it is becoming more common in children.

Type 2 diabetes can be forestalled or at the very least delayed if an individual maintains a healthy body weight and exercises regularly. The exercise equipment can be based on personal preference. The treatment of the disease centers on maintaining safe blood sugar and cholesterol levels. A balanced diet and consistent exercise are useful for many people, but others may require one or more medications to help control blood sugar levels.
