Juvenile Diabetes Is Simply A Young Person With Diabetes

By Eddie Smyths for exercise-and-health.com

Juvenile diabetes is severe diabetes mellitus with any early onset, usually characterized by symptoms including excessive thirst, increased appetite, weight loss and episodic ketoacidosis. While maintaining a lifetime fitness program and implementing your target heart rate can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet and insulin injections may be required to treat and control the disease.

When you hear the word juvenile along with diabetes, it is basically meant to describe a young person with diabetes. This term is somewhat dates when the disease is discussed. Nowadays, doctors refer to diabetes as ‘type 1’ and ‘type 2’. Type 1 diabetes is when the body’s immune system malfunctions and attacks the pancreas. The pancreas then can’t make enough insulin and glucose levels begin to go up. With the increase in glucose levels come an increase in confusion as to where the glucose should go and therefore less makes it to where it is needed. Type 1 diabetes is a disease that commonly is seen in children and young adults. A good diet, proper exercise and insulin are all ways to treat this type of diabetes and work toward the prevention of damage to the body for a healthy lifestyle.

The body being unable to use the insulin that the pancreas makes characterizes type 2 diabetes. This disease was commonly seen only in overweight adults over 40 years of age, but younger people are becoming susceptible to type 2 diabetes, as they become more overweight. The proper diet and exercise is important in controlling the symptoms of this disease in addition to medications.

Always consult your doctor if you have concerns about the symptoms, treatment and prevention of diabetes. If you already live with diabetes, be sure to check with your doctor if you desire any changes in your lifestyle including adding new exercise equipment to your workout routine.
